THE REASON YOU’RE ALIVE

by Matthew Quick

A fiction novel written by “The Silver Linings Playbook” celebrity author Matthew Quick portraying a decent touching and delicately dramatic story of a 68-year old Vietnam War veteran and a true American patriot, David Granger.

The story seems to be cut from the same cloth as Matthew’s earlier works but the later similarities end however. It's a testimony to make his life and experiences live forever through a time capsule. A candid report in which he relates all that has happened to him in past 50 years, pre and post war period including.

From talking about true American life, capitalism, liberal rants, stereotypical judgements to talking about love, commitments, parental guidance and good health, this book covers all.

David seems to be in phase where he regrets how some-things worked badly yet the outcomes blossomed in later future.

David tries to amend these wrongs in that later phase and ends up in appreciative moment. Having achieved that closure over his low-points in his life, he notices that all people he’s left and loves the most are not his real-blood relations but his fate’s work.

From doting on his granddaughter, looking for his troubled & suicidal wife and mourning over the ones he lost in lifetime; tones down his antihero’s bushiness and reveals a tender side.

The end result is a vibrant and compassionate tale of complex man trying to find his way in a divided America which he refers to as the land of free.

The book is overall a good read, a fine work of storytelling experiences and surely needs to be recommended.
